I was stoked to see that they were making a show based on the Archie comics so right away I was determined to watch the show. And I did. I watched from the very first episode. At times i found myself very impatient when waiting for the next weeks episode. I was hooked from the beginning!
I feel the show stayed pretty true to the characters, at least with their appearances. I'll admit, I haven't really read much of the comics at this point but I did have some knowledge going in. Betty is the down to earth, innocent girl next door with a crush on her neighbor and best friend Archie. Archie is charming, cute, talented, and quite the ladies man. Veronica is confident, sassy, and determined. And well, fun to watch. Cheryl starts out as a mean girl but seems to find some redemption by the season's end. And let's not forget Jughead Jones. He is just, perfect! All the way down to his crown beanie! Cole Sprouse does an excellent job with the role, and he looks good too!
Most of the adults in this show are just awful. They're manipulative and cruel. Betty's parents are among the worst. I'm not too fond of the Blossoms either. Veronica's mom Hermonie is tolerable. Jughead's dad is like-able at times, and Archie's dad is probably the best of the bunch. At least he is pretty supportive of his child and actually has a heart lol
The big murder mystery is the overall plot of the show. It is fine, I suppose but I just enjoyed seeing the kids do their thing. It was nice seeing their high school lives and watching relationships and friendships blossom. I need to see more Josie and the Pussycats! I love that they get to be part of the show too. I could have done without Miss Grundy, though. Cause, ew.
I cannot wait to see the result of the big cliffhanger at the end of the season and Hiram Lodge's grand appearance in Riverdale. And more Jughead. Especially since he seems to have joined the local motorcycle gang his father was part of. This could mean trouble for him (and between him and his friends) in the future. Also, i'm hoping they do in fact bring in Sabrina Spellman (as rumors are saying), because i'd love to see the teenage witch mix it up with the gang!
Overall, I give Riverdale season one 4/5 stars.
